If I took a movie of myself playing Halo 2, and converted it to MPEG4 to run
on the PSP, would you post "HALO2 ON SONY'S PSP!!!!!!"? It's a hoax.

I've no doubt that eventually an Atari 2600 or NES emulator, and perhaps
even MAME, will find its way to the PSP, but it hasn't happened yet.

I didn't look at the link, so I can't comment on that one
specifically, but there is a Gameboy Color emulator that is already
available for download (I don't think it has sound yet), and a SNES
emulator is in the works.

The only catch is that, so far, homebrew code will only run on a V1.0
Japanese PSP (there's a bug in the 1.0 firmware that allows unsigned
code to run on the PSP, it was fixed in 1.5, which all the US PSPs
shipped with...)

(this may be old news to you guys, not sure... :) )

Well somebody needs to find a way to make homebrew code signed (in
order to run on the psp with the current bios).

Oh, they are trying desperately... A hacker group announced today
that they will be releasing a 'Loader' pretty soon that will allow you
play games copied from the UMDs on the memory stick...
(I'll believe it when I see it...)

I'm not sure I'm ready to see rampant game piracy on the PSP just yet,
but if nothing else, maybe it will also work to load homebrew games or
something...

Remember when people actually tried to make hoaxes
believable? It was a much simpler time.

I still remember with great affection that ongoing saga of a thread. We
had Quake on a CV, 5200 Wolfenstein 3D and O^2 Descent, also. And
eventually the whole thing made it to a couple gam mags, who printed the
Doom 2600 boxes and screen captures.

At least there was some truth to that... There IS an actual
ROM image of the title screen, but that's it -- it was made
using Andrew Davie's Chronocolour process.

If you ever get to see the game Wayout on the 5200's blood brother, the
Atari 800, you will see that any kind of real time 3D rendering like
that really pushed the system to its limit. There isn't the processor
power to add bad guys shooting multiple forms of ballistics at you.

I did enjoy Molten Core on the 2600. At least it was playable.

Even more enjoyable is when my new usenet app tells me a post from 2005
is the latest on the group.

Ah, the timelessness of classic video games. And discussions thereof.
