Post by THE SPACE BOSSPost by intvsteveTo the off-topic: The mere existance of a human - child or otherwise -
imposes inconvenience on other humans. We all consume resources, produce
waste, etc. Ultimately, we all inconvenience others, and regularly.
let thier child scream or throw a
tantrum in a movie, store, or other public place. They need to remove the kid
from the movie house, the store, or wherever the kid is making a ruckis. If
that means the parent doesn't get to see the film or shop, TOUGH.
Obviously, there are times and places where a child's behavior is
unacceptable. (Adults' behavior too, for that matter. Cell phones anyone?)
If a parent is too selfish to take care of their child, and allows things
like this to happen, they're going to have a miserable life and raise
miserable kids. Sad.
Post by THE SPACE BOSSWhat about the poor bastard who gets caught in the middle of it all?
TOUGH. :-P
Post by THE SPACE BOSSSteve, let me be real clear on something. I think that parents need to be held
responsable for the actions of thier children 100%. If a kid vandalizes a
building, etc., I believe that instead of the taxpayers paying for it, the
parent should be forced to mortgage his home if need be and foot the bill. If
he/she doesn't like that, well, that's the real responsability that comes from
having children. I also am resentful that welfare programs allow people to have
more and more children and collect more and more benefits.
Now it's getting all socio-economic and political.=:O For 30 years or so
it's been drummed into everyone's heads that certain problems are societal
and not to be blamed on the individual. I agree with you on this. What a
crock. Nowadays, in some schools, kids can't run on playgrounds because they
might get hurt! A random google on this gives you stuff like this:
http://www.aps.edu/aps/mabinford/playgroundrules.html
http://www.njsbf.com/njsbf/student/eagle/spring03-5.cfm
You can't even bring in cookies or cupcakes for birthdays in some schools!
(Kids 'might get fat' - typical moronic administrative BS moves that are
crushed once anybody with a few brain cells to rub together does some basic
math on calories. Grr.!)
We live in an age of victimization. People get money from tobacco companies
because they smoked cigarettes for 30 years, despite every single fucking
pack of them warning them that they'll get cancer. Gunmakers pay settlements
to families of people 'killed by guns' because litigation is so ruinous.
(Odd... I thought that usually a gun is incapable of acting on its own ...
didn't someone pull the trigger? - aside from freak accidents.) (OH shit,
now the gun control topic has been broached.) People get fat because they
eat Super-sized fries and fast food and sit on their asses. But it's not
THEIR fault! It's the fast food company's fault for making the food. Sheesh!
I totally support personal responsibility, and that when a child does
something that damages property, etc. that the parents be held responsible.
This works fine until you run into cases where there are literally no
resources available for the parent to repay damages. They might be working
two jobs, living in a shithole, and unable to devote the time they need to
to their kids and barely have enough to live. What do you do then? Sadly,
there situations like this that are truly tragic, and not the fault of the
party being blamed - i.e. the 'special cases'. I think we've come to treat
the exception as the rule, though.
This is the last I'll post on this, as we're totally OT.
